About iPresent Communications
iPresent is a rapidly growing educational technology startup based in Boston. Our goal is to change the way online learning is delivered by setting a new standard for educational technology.
We believe online learning should be open, social, and collaborative. We turn classrooms into online learning communities, where instructors and students are provided powerful publishing, communication, and collaboration tools that improve the overall learning outcome. Our platform is feature rich, yet cleanly designed, simple to navigate, and easy to use.
iPresent is seeking several Summer interns to help us grow the business. We are a 2011 Mass Challenge Finalist (http://masschallenge.org) – which is recognized as the largest startup competition and incubator program in the world. We have office space within Mass Challenge’s office, which is located on Fan Pier in Downtown Boston.
We are looking for folks that are passionate about technology and building innovative, web products that people will use. Customer Development and Marketing Intern
The Customer Development and Marketing Intern will help us build our brand awareness by working on a variety of Inbound as well as Outbound Marketing initiatives. Sample duties include:
- Writing and crafting blog articles
- Managing our Twitter presence
- Reviewing, fine-tuning, re-writing our website copy
- Reaching out directly to leads and prospects
- Email marketing – building up our mailing list, crafting targeted communications
- Your contributions will be visible on the web and will provide a meaningful value our company
Quality Assurance Intern
The QA Intern will have a strong interest and/or course work in programming, software design, web design, and/or testing. Sample duties include:
- Write (or learn how to write) actual test scripts for our Ruby on Rails platform
- Perform unit, functional, integration, and front-end testing across our platform
- Analyze, report, and make recommendations on how to improve/fix certain areas of the system
- Build up our test coverage
- Work to improve the automation of our test suite
- Perform usability testing – recommend improvements
- Execute 1 or more usability testing programs from some popular testing services
- You will see the results of your testing improvements implemented and live on the web
Engineering Intern
The Engineering Intern will have course work and/or experience working with web technologies such as: HTML/CSS, jQuery, AJAX, some scripting language (Ruby, PHP, Python), SQL. Sample duties include:
- Design, spec, build, test and implement new features
- Analyze, suggest, and spec improvements to existing features
- Learn how to work in a Ruby on Rails environment, including dev environment setup, git usage, deployment practices
- Have an opportunity to work with some of the hottest web technologies and services including: Amazon EC2/S3/CloudFront, Ruby on Rails, Heroku, and more
- See your code live on the web and being used by teachers, students, and training departments of actual schools and organizations
Compensation
These internship positions are unpaid, although we will provide a stipend to cover lunches, commuting expenses, etc. You will learn some awesome lessons about entrepreneurship and business. If you “get things done” – our founder, Carmen Ferrara, will most certainly provide a glowing letter of recommendation and be a reference to help you land a job when you get out of school. Also, the office space, the experience, the people you’ll meet, what you’ll learn, and what you’ll be able to show you’ve accomplished will be well worth it.
